Encounter at L5 is a Space Invaders-style game in which you take control of an Antimatter Launcher to protect yourself and your fellow colonists of L-5, a remote outpost in the furthest reaches of space. Wave after wave of Megalyte warships come down with lasers blasting determined to wipe you and your fellow human scum from the face of the universe. You control your ships with the paddle controllers. Moving the paddle left and right adjusts the sight cursor located at the top of the screen. Pressing the fire button causes your Antimatter Launcher to appear on the surface of the planet and start rapid-firing toward your cursor. Adjust the cursor to aim your shots and release the button to hide your launcher under the planet's surface again. Each player starts with four launchers, and the game ends when all of your launchers have been destroyed. There are 26 variations of Encounter at L-5 to choose from -- 13 one-player games and 13 two-player games -- each varying in their initial difficulty level. Difficulty may also be selected by using the difficulty switches. Set the switches to left 'B' and right 'B' for slow enemies, left 'A' and right 'B' for medium speed enemies, and left 'B' and right 'A' for fast enemies.
